Note to moderator

Dear Moderator,

My brief for my AS media was to create a front cover, contents page and double page spread for a new music magazine. I choose to do my magazine in dance/house based genre due to recent tends causing a higher demand for this genre of music magazine, therefore, in order to supply to an ever demanding audience, I wanted to give the preferred audience of my magazine, a new and up to date magazine in which they can effectively be a pro-Sumer and voice their views on what the magazine will contain.

I have used labels on my blog to make it easily navigable in order to find what you are looking for.

Yours sincerely,

Evaluation question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

For any magazine it is esserntial to have the perfect amount of media convergence which is the merging of communication outlets. For example bring the televisions to the internet so people are able to watch the TV on the internet this is a huge benefit as it allows consumers from all media convergences to access one source. Media convergence allows people to advertise one type of media over a number of different sources. An example of this is magazine companies do not just sell hard copies but also have internet versions to allow people read there magazine even if they are unable to buy it from the shops.

I have researched a few media distributors that I feel would distribute my media product:
  1. Development hell
  2. Bauer
  3. IPC (Time inc)

Development hell- This distributor are a London based publishing company. I believe this company would be a excellent distributor for my product as they specialize in dance and house music magazines. At this moment in time they are the distribution company for the world biggest dance magazine who would be my biggest competitors who are 'mixmag'.

Bauer- 'Bauer media' are the biggest and most popular institution in the world who publish for the big name brands in terms of media convergence. As they are such a large business and would have loads of contacts in the music industry the would be my first choice as a distribution company as they come with al their expertise and they work very closely with major radio stations and TV companies. As a business at the moment they are in charge of producing 300 magazines in 15 countries all across the world. This is a further benefit by going with this company as they would be able to market my magazine all across the world giving it global success.

IPC (Time inc)- are a famous publishing company based in Britain who publish digital and print hard copies for magazines. Not only do they just distribute products they have great links through media convergence and work with other magazines and firms.

Evaluation Question 2 - The images How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Posture:

In terms of posture the images are fairly similar. In my image the models posture is straight and upright, his head is inline with his body to create a straight and narrow postures as this gives a direct address to the audience. My image is very similar to the one of the mixmag magazine which is on the far right the only difference is the serious look on here face compared to the chilled smirk on the models face on my magazine. The hand signal of my magazine represents the name underneath the model which is 'JUSLUKE' and the hands are representing the signals 'J' and 'L'. The similarity between my magazine and the HOUSE OF MUSIC magazine is the chilled characteristics of the models and the smirky smile on their faces.

Clothing:

The clothing from all three different magazines vary significantly as they are all dressed in different ways. My magazine the model is dressed very chilled and casual but I feel my model represents the magazine genre very well as he is wearing a snapback this is a very elaborate attempt to try and connect with the house and dance side of things through the portray of an image. The other two magazine's have a very more formal approach as they are wearing suits and fancy dresses I opted against this idea as I feel the genre does not need to be represented in a formal way.

Shot Type/ Angle

My magazine I choose to do a medium shot as this shows half of his body so it takes a large proportion of the space on the front cover to represent that the magazine is about this artist. All the shots are highlighting the artist to show there sense of power as they are the main focus point.

In terms of representing the social groups I think my magazine has done so excellently .

In terms of representing social groups I think my magazine has so very well, my target audience would be between the ages of 13 to roughly around 25 years old. The reasoning for this is because and younger or older than this age bracket may not be as interested in thee genre of my music. My magazine will be aimed at males and females as the dance and house music erne can appeal to a wide variety of people of all ages and genders.
